One Room Challenge Reveal: A modern boho bedroom with home office
You know that saying, “the DIY days are long, but the weeks are short”…..or something like that. Somehow week 6 of the One Room Challenge is upon us, and designers and bloggers all over the internet are revealing some of the most beautiful and creative spaces I’ve ever seen. Make sure that you check out all of the eye candy from both the featured designers and guest participants over on the One Room Challenge (ORC) Blog.
Progress not perfection
I had a long list of to dos and visions for this space, and while I wasn’t able to check off everything on my list, I did have some major progress and wins. My overall goal for this space was to create a cozy retreat for both guests and myself to work and relax in.
Let’s flash back really quickly to the disastrous mess of a before as well as my mood board inspo.
The boldest update was this vertical shiplap wall that I installed and painted in Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black. I love the dimension the darker color adds to the room, and the vertical helps to draw the eye up in a low ceiling space.
I had fully intended to makeover a large mirror I found on Facebook Marketplace, but once I got it into the space the dimensions didn’t feel right to me. Shopping my home is one of my favorite ways to decorate on a budget so I relocated this reclaimed wood framed mirror from our master bedroom.
You can see the DIY hairpin desk I made from an old shutter peeking out there in the corner. As well as the budget friendly and super simple bed frame I made from basic 1 x 12.
Budget friendly wall art
This room will likely transition into our oldest son’s bedroom within the next year so I wanted to be frugal with the decor choices for now. Both this DIY macrame style wall hanging and this set of highland cow engineer prints came in at under $20 each. I like to change things up often, so I really loved that fact that this BIG wall art didn’t cost an arm and a leg.
I installed a simple bracket shelf, and brought in a few other items to serve as office storage.
This was my first time participating in the ORC challenge, and I’m so happy I did! This room has sat untouched for over a year since moving in. While I didn’t complete every single thing on my list, I loved that it forced me to focus on one space at a time. In 6 weeks I made same serious progress.
I’ll continue to finish up the things I wanted to work on here, such as my under the stairs mom nook, which I am especially excited about!
I think the BEST part about this challenge though was meeting some really amazing bloggers that I likely wouldn’t have crossed paths with otherwise. Thank you all so much for following along with the process! I hope it encourages you to pick a space in your home to focus on. And remember that you don’t have to have a huge budget to turn a space into something beautiful, just a little creativity! – Jessica
