ORC Week 1 – Guest Bedroom & Home Office Transformation
I am so excited to announce that I will be participating in the One Room Challenge as a guest participant.
Each week, both featured designers and guest participants will share their progress and link up HERE.
Participant also share tons of day to progress through social media using the hashtags #oneroomchallenge and #BHGORC so be sure to follow along!
I have a hard time keeping my creative process to one project at a time, so I’m hoping the tight deadline will help me reign all the crazy in!
Guest Bedroom / Home Office
The room I’ve chosen to revamp is an extra downstairs bedroom in our finished basement. At the moment it’s a hodge podge of things I’d like to incorporate into the space. When my sister comes to visit and help out with the kids I clean it up enough to make it habitable.
It also has a partially finished space under the stairs that currently houses an old military uniform and a beer stained wedding dress. I’ve got some really fun things planned for this little nook. Tiny spaces like this are just so fun and cozy!
Eventually this space will become our oldest son’s bedroom so I need it to remain functional as a bedroom, while still accommodating our current needs. So for now, here are my top goals for this space on a budget!
And some really terrifying before images….just in case you’ve got a room like this too! You’re not alone! ha!
To Do List
- Drop ceiling
- Currently rocking basic builder tiles, and I’m hoping to dress it up with a more modern look.
- Accent Wall
- Still tossing around board and batten vs. shiplap, but it will for sure be DARK!
- Large DIY leaning mirror
- This is a small room, and mirrors can help give the illusion of a larger space. I scored a huge builder grader mirror off of FB Marketplace for $20 that I plan to build a frame for.
- Guest bed
- Still toying with the idea of a Murphy Bed like this one from Francois et Moi (pictured in mood board above) to conserve space. Time will tell, but I love the streamlined look they bring to a small space. Function AND fashion.
- Functional office space for blogging
- I’m much more efficient when I work in a designated space. I plan to refinish a desk and implement storage / organization options.
- Mom Nook Under the stairs
- More to come on this, but this is probably what I’m MOST excited about.
I can’t wait to share the weekly progress with you guys here on the blog, and the day to day shenanigans over on my Instagram stories! I hope you’ll follow along with myself and tons of others as we take this challenge on! – Jessica
