DIY Large Wall Art and a faux daybed frame for under $20
It’s the final countdown folks, and I am definitely coming in right under the wire for the One Room Challenge. Last week I wrapped up the black vertical shiplap wall and a simple DIY hairpin leg desk. This week I’m showing you how I created large scale wall art for under $25, and a faux daybed using basic department store lumber.
Creating a faux daybed
If you recall from my week one plans this space serves as a guest bedroom when family comes to town. I played with the idea of a new murphy bed or daybed, but in the end I really just wanted to be able to work with what I had to stay on budget. The before was simply a queen mattress and box spring placed atop a metal frame for height. Boring. I removed the frame and placed the box spring on the floor. Using basic 1 x 12 pine I created a frame around the box spring. For the final reveal I’ll add in some fun accent pillows and and comfy blankets, and we now have a large cozy space that will still easily accommodate guests.
DIY Large Wall Art
Since there is no headboard, I needed something around the bed space. I found this set of three boho-esque Highland cow prints on Etsy for under $7. All three prints printed at Staples as 24 x 36 engineer prints still came in under $10.
I cut two lengths of 1 x 2 board slightly wider than the print and attached then from the back using a staple gun. The engineer print paper is thin so i sandwiched it between the wood and a small strip of foam board attached to the back of the wood. I nailed a small hanger hook to the top middle of each wood piece and hung them on the wall. Easy peasy.
Stay Tuned
I love how this image gives you a tiny peek of all the mood board elements finally starting to come together. Full reveal of this updated space will be live next week!
