ORC Week 4 – Vertical Shiplap accent wall and a simple DIY desk
Ladies and gentleman we have a completed accent wall! At the rate my one room challenge progress is going, that may be the only update this room actually gets at the end of the six week period, but I remain hopeful!
Hopefully you’re following along with all of the other challenge participants over on the One Room Challenge Blog There is some serious inspo going on over there! I’ve also come across so many fun new Instagram accounts by browsing the #oneroomchallenge hashtag!
This Spring’s challenge has come at a really busy time for our family with Easter, multiple birthdays, Spring Break and more. So my progress has been slow, and some room plans have been slightly modified. However, it’s progress over perfection and that’s what I’m shooting for.
This week I wrapped up the vertical shiplap accent wall painted in Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams. Learn from my mistake if you try this yourself, and paint the overlapping grooves BEFORE you nail to the wall. I ended up having to go back in with a small craft brush to cover all of the nooks and crannies.
***Big thanks to Walmart for sponsoring this post! I have been monetarily compensated for my work, but all thoughts and opinions are my own. We only share what we love here, and as always, thank you for your support!***
I still need to paint and re-install the switch covers, but after two coats this moody little accent wall is complete.
If you read my Week One post I talked about my ultimate goals for this space. One of which was the need for a personal work space. I had initially planned to refinish my grandparent’s old desk, but for the sake of deadlines I went with something slightly more simple. Not to mention, if you followed along with my great table refinish extravaganza, you’ll know why I’m not interested in refinishing much of anything for quite some time.
Simple DIY Hairpin Desk
I had been gifted a set of handmade wooden shutters by my parents a few years back. I made some DIY signs for a couple of friends with two, and the other pair were collecting dust in our garage along with these hairpin legs. I gave it a quick scrub down with my favorite Krud Kutter, painted on a coat of Fusion Mineral Paint in Park Bench and attached the legs.
So if nothing else pulls through I will at least have a beautiful accent wall with a simple but fun little desk to work at! On the agenda for the upcoming week will be the guest bed and hanging wall decor. Stay tuned! – Jessica
