How to hack an IKEA Dollhouse with DIY dollhouse furniture
Every little girl dreams of having her very own dollhouse, and in my case, maybe every mommy does too. ; )
I had so much fun with this IKEA dollhouse makeover that I did for my daughter. Using the budget-friendly IKEA flisat dollhouse wall shelf and basic crafting supplies I updated it from boring and basic to every little girl (or mom’s) modern farmhouse dream.

The great thing about this IKEA dollhouse hack is that you can customize it to your personal style and keep it cheap using odds and ends you find around your own home.
In true IKEA fashion, you’ll need to assemble the dollhouse using their easy to follow instructions. This one is pretty simple. Depending on your design plans you may want to do any painting before it’s completely assembled.
Once it’s assembled it’s time to accessorize. I seriously had SO much fun with this. Beware, it’s easy to get lost in this process. I could have gone on for days!
For the sake of time and sanity, many of the premade furniture pieces were purchased. The bathroom supplies, fireplace, and a few of the accessories were purchased from Hobby Lobby and Dollar Tree.
An accent wall in the bathroom was created using white adhesive cardstock and painted craft sticks.
Wallpaper and flooring accents were created with basic scrapbook paper attached to some double-sided adhesive cardstock I found in my crafting supplies.
The smaller dressers, kitchen cabinets and table are from Dollar Tree and simply spray painted black.
The bed was a DIY using an assorted pack of balsa wood available at most craft stores. It cuts easily with an x-acto knife, and then I hot glued the pieces together. I completed it with some DIY bedding from scrap fabric and foam.
I think the plants were my favorite part of the entire project. I used wooden craft beads and pulled a few sprigs of greenery off of faux plants. The mini “fig” tree is a replica of one we have in our actual house. I created the faux basket by hot-gluing some sisal rope around the cap from an old skincare container.
For the living room, an old cut up accessories bag turned area rug, and the cutest little DIY coffee table from a birch wood slice and paperclips.
And if you know my style at all, you won’t be surprised one bit by that black accent wall.
She was so excited when I finally revealed it to her! We paired it with some Calico Critters as the house is too small scale for Barbie.
You could seriously get lost in this little miniature world. There are furnishings on the market that will seriously blow your mind!
I hope you guys have enjoyed looking at all of the little details of this IKEA Dollhouse Hack! I’ve even seen some awesome hacks for little boys too! Kid projects are so much fun for me, and I’d love for you to share if you give this one a try! Even if it’s just for yourself. ; )
